How to Wash After Hair Transplantation

Updated: Dec 25, 2024

After hair transplantation, attention should be paid to hair care and the hair should be protected against many factors. One of the most important processes to be careful about after hair transplantation operations is the washing process. It is normal for crusting to occur in the transplanted areas after hair transplantation. However, the washing procedures of the areas that become sensitive after crusting should be carried out by expert hands. The aim of the last wash is for the hair follicles to breathe and for the hair to return to its normal state.

So how is the last wash done after hair transplantation?

After 1 week of delicate washing after hair transplantation, the patient is given a final wash. In the last wash, it is possible to be more relaxed compared to previous washes. A little more harsh action is taken to remove the crusts caused by the transplant.

  • First, lotion is applied to the transplanted area.

  • The lotion is rubbed into the scalp with movements that can be considered harsh.

  • In order not to have difficulty while removing the crusts, the applied lotion is left on the scalp for about 1 hour.

  • After waiting for 1 hour, the final wash is started. It is recommended that the water be lukewarm for this wash.

  • The hair roots are softened with circular movements with the help of water.

  • During washing, patients may think that some of their hair has fallen out. Since the hair has hardened, the hair may break during washing. This is completely normal and should not be worried.

  • It is appropriate to use gauze for the last wash so that the crusts can be peeled off more easily.

  • It would be more beneficial to use a hair nourishing shampoo such as Curegen during washing.

  • The shampoo is applied to the gauze from top to bottom or using circular movements and the crusts are softened.

In this way, the hair roots that have been left without air for 1 week get rid of their crusts and start to breathe. After this wash, healthy hair is allowed to come from below.

Since it is a sensitive tissue, there are some things to be careful about while washing;

It is important not to use nails while washing the hair. Since nails are risky in terms of bacteria, their contact with the scalp can cause infection.

Another thing to be careful about is shaving. Due to the metal tip, the nape area and the donor area on the nape should not be shaved with a machine for the first 1 month, and the transplanted area on the top should not be shaved for 3 months.

After the wash is finished, unlike previous washes, you can use cotton towels instead of paper towels.
